Better Family Tents for Better Outdoor Experience

A family tent is very important if you want to ensure your outdoor adventure with the family will be successful. Even if you’re just going outdoors for the day, a family tent is very important so that it could provide the right shade for the whole family. A simple Sunday picnic could be a little bit frustrating if there is no proper shade and other amenities that will make the outdoor experience easier. Although the family would like to be outdoors, they would also like to be as comfortable as possible. With a tent, the whole family could be protected and would eventually enjoy the outdoors.

Right Type of Family Tent

There are two important things that you should consider when buying a family tent for the first time: capacity and weather. You should have a tent that should have the capability of housing your family or more. You should never settle for less since you don’t want the odd man out to sleep outside the tent (if you’re the father, it will most likely be you). It’s best that you should have a tent that has enough capacity for everyone. The weather should be also considered. The usually affordable tents are the ones that are manufactured for a specific season. For example, there are lighter and thinner tents that are only geared for summer while there are tents that are perfect for winter and other cold conditions. Their advantage is that they are specifically built for the weather but they can’t be versatile or changeable.

You can also go for a tent that could be used for any season. However, these are tents that should be considered not just for any weather but not on the extreme weather conditions. All-Season tents are convertible for any season. However, they are never a recommended tent during winter with strong snow conditions. If you’re looking for a good family tent that’s perfect for any condition, look for three-season tents. Don’t be fooled by the name as they could fully adapt to any season.

Additional Components

When shopping for the right family tent, there are additional components that you should look for. Although they might add to the price of your family tent, these components are worth it to protect your family from different conditions.

Camping Material

There are two types of tents when it comes to materials. The first type of tent is polyester made tents. They are often preferred by those who would be staying outdoors for day because of its durability. The material also provides better protection from the strong heat of the sun because of its capacity to handle UV rays.

The second type of tent based on material is nylon. This is lighter compared to polyester however; this camping material could be a little bit hot because it can’t provide much protection against different UV rays. This is also the most affordable option but it could be easily destroyed when they are not properly handled.

Rain Fly

Always opt for a tent that has a rain fly. The rain fly will protect your tent from getting hot or getting cold for varying reasons. At first glance the rain fly doesn’t provide much protection since it looks like a covering for the tent. But without the rain fly, your tent will never be protected from extreme weather conditions.

Ventilation

If you’re camping out during the summer, proper ventilation should be sought out from a camping tent. Remember that there is no electricity so a fan is out the question. Get a camping tent for the whole family that provides a good amount of ventilation.

One Piece Floor

There are floors that are weaved or seamed in the middle. This would often be the place where the water or dust would seep through. One piece floor won’t have any holes wherein water or dust could go through.

Camping Tent with Babies

There are parents who have second thoughts in bringing their infants and toddlers during family camping. But like most family activities, your infant should be part of it and would even have fun while being outdoors. A lot of parents have already realized this and through experience, they have already mastered the outdoors with their infants.

The basic trick when dealing with an infant in a camping tent is to keep the area as comfortable as possible. Since you can’t provide them their accustomed sleeping kits, there are cribs that could do the trick. Keep your tent bug free as this could cause rashes to your infant which could cause distraction to everyone.

If you want to keep your main tent clean, purchase a smaller tent where you can play with your infant. They can stay in the smaller tent and be as dirty as possible and you can rest easy at night since the main tent has been kept clean.

Keeping Your Family Tent Dry

Your family tent should be dry as much as possible. A wet floor would ruin almost everything and a wet floor could happen in an instant if caution is not practiced. Water containers should have a tight lid to prevent it from spilling in the floor.

If you have an extra budget, buy a tarp that could be purchased below the floor. A tarp will protect the floor of the family tent from getting wet because of precipitation and rain. Just buy a tarp that’s a little bit smaller than the floor by two to three inches. A longer tarp may collect water on the outside and it could get into the floor. Instead of having dry floor because of the tarp, you end up with a wet floor because of the tarp.

It’s also ideal to have an air mattress to have a comfortable night sleep. Your bed will be dry even with the harsh conditions since most air mattresses have an elevation of at least 1 inch. Although the floor will not be entirely dry, your family could still sleep because of the elevation.
