The Right Camping Tent

A camping tent is an essential equipment for a great outdoor experience. The outdoors could provide uncomfortable conditions – the hot sun and very cold nights, different insects and not to mention the potential rain that could ruin almost everything. But these inconveniences could be tolerated as long there is a good and comfortable camping tent. A tent could single handedly address the problem of weather and protection from different insects. It could also provide a comfortable option for everyone in the outdoors. At night, the camping tent could be a protection from cold and would provide a good night sleep even though the outdoors would provide different challenges from the weather.

But going outdoors with any type of camping tent will not do the trick. Any camper knows that the right camping tent should be selected so that the outdoor experience will be comfortable and enjoyable. There are a lot of camping tents and each of them has their own advantages and disadvantages and would only be proven perfect for a specific occasion and need. The wrong tent would not only fit the need but would even become a distraction because the wrong camping tent would be completely useless and would only be another baggage that should be brought home.

Determining the Camping Type

Choosing the right camping tent starts with determining the activities you’ll be doing outdoors. You could be staying in the outdoors for a day or two and would require a tent that would protect you at night. There are also tents that are geared towards day activities wherein its main role is just to protect everyone from the heat of the sun or rain. They also provide good shade for eating out.

The activities that you will do will greatly help you in determining what type of camping tent that you will need. You could basically determine the right camping tent from there.

The Size of the Tent

Another important consideration in selecting the right tent is its size. This is very important especially if you want to stay overnight outdoors. If you end up with a smaller tent, it will only cause inconveniences since you will end up being cramped in a small tent. A larger tent with a bigger space than expected space is ok but it will give you a hard time transporting them. This would usually happen if you end up with a camping tent that should be carried in your backpack.

Fortunately, tents come in varying sizes that it could accommodate a single person or even a family of five. Always determine the number of campers to have the right tent size. To be on the safe side, get the tent that could accommodate everyone “expected” to go outdoors. If everyone doesn’t go, you still have a tent that could accommodate everyone. It’s better to be a little bit uncomfortable for a day than to be totally uncomfortable at night because of a smaller tent size.

Types of Camping Tents

Tents come in different forms and each tent has their advantages and disadvantages:

The most popular type of tent is the dome tent. It’s very practical and could be used for any season but they are perfect during the summer month. The dome roof provides extra space for more ventilation and provides better movement. The prices of dome tents are relatively expensive because of its popularity. Although they could be a little bit expensive compared to other types of tents, the extra payment is worth it.

Although a dome tent could withstand almost any type of weather, the hollow roof of the dome tent makes it susceptible to pressure. That means rains and snow could destroy the dome tent without additional support in the middle of the dome.

A wedge shaped tent is also a popular type of tent. They usually have a triangular design on the head and on the foot area. The middle has a rectangular shape which means it could perfectly fit to a human body. Pitching this type of camping tent is relatively easier compared to dome since it doesn’t require bending of sticks.

The only downside of this type of tent is on its headspace. Because it has a triangular shape, it doesn’t provide much movement for the body except for lying down.

A pyramid tent is the most affordable type of tent compared to the previously mentioned tents. Their affordability is based on the fact that most pyramid tents don’t have any floor. The beddings have to be provided by the camper. However, they could accommodate as much as three persons because of its space. You should be able to build this type of tent in no time at all.

The disadvantage of this tent is obviously on the fact that it doesn’t have any floor. You still have to buy a separate sleeping bed so that you can rest well. It might not also do well when it rains especially when you are in a slope.

Caring for Your Camping Tent

A camping tent will last for a very long time as long as they are properly cleaned and well maintained. Most tents after use just needs to be cleaned with water and letting it dry naturally. Camping tents are only smeared with mud and dust and removing them will never require extensive cleaning. The support for the tents only needs to be wiped and checked for cracks for maintenance purposes.

Tents should be placed in an area with room temperature. They should never be placed in an area where there is direct sunlight since sunlight could cramp or shrink the plastic fabric. A camping tent may not require extensive cleaning or special attention for storage but they are required so that they will last for the longest time possible. Tents are not really affordable and it will cost you if every time you go out for a camping trip, you go out and purchase a brand new camping tent.

Selecting the right tent starts with determining what you need. Be careful in determining your purpose for a camping trip, you will end up with the right camping tent which will help you enjoy the outdoors even more.
